Creative Commons in your school

March 5, 2008 · No Comments

Digital technologies have revolutionised how creative works are made, distributed, and used. The challenge facing our schools is to ensure that we are teaching our students to treat others creative works in a fair and just way – with integrity.

Creative commons allows us to use and build on the many great resources on the web. It enables students to build on others creations and learning in a legal and ethical way.

The presentation below explains a little more about creative commons

Some of my favourite creative commons sites are

flickrcc A great photo sharing site for creative commons photos. You can also edit photos from within the site.

Creative Commons Search – A search engine for creative commons resources

archive.org The Internet Archive is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Freely download images, movies, music

Freesound The Freesound Project is a collaborative database of Creative Commons licensed sounds. Freesound focusses only on sound, not songs.

We have created a small bank of online resources you might like to share with your colleagues at school. There is a description briefly detailing the resource above each link.

Fuzzmail allows you to record your email as it progresses, displaying all changes, from basic spelling edits to more dynamic changes to text form. It also communicates and pauses the authors fluency, translating the email into a more dynamically expressive text.
Fodey.com is a website that allows you to create your own newspaper clippings. The clippings are quite authentic looking and this online resource could be incorporated into writing experiences.
Babelfish translates blocks of text from one language to another and also converts webpages from one text to another.
Reading planet is a literacy online site which allows students to create stories and investigate poetry.
Toothtally project is an online resource which gives teachers a way to integrate a common event in the life of a first grader- loosing a tooth, with a number of KLA’S.
Click here to access the toothtally project
Toondoo is an online site allows users to create their own cartoons. This is similar to Comic Life with slightly more creative options.

Share, Remix, Reuse — Legally

Creative Commons provides free tools that let authors, scientists, artists, and educators easily mark their creative work with the freedoms they want it to carry.

For our schools Creative Commons materials ensure that we stay on the right side of the law when using materials from the internet.

You can find a selection of Creative Commons resources here

Network Meeting Resources

August 22, 2007 · No Comments

Click here for link to Sherryn’s resources as mentioned at our Network Meeting. The other on-line file conversion link is vixy.net I find this a little more direct than Zamzar as you dont have to open your mail to access the converted file, but it does seem to take a long while to upload from Vixy. Give both a try and see which suits you best! Don’t forget to subscribe to ‘Interact- Journal’ http://www.computercoordinator.com.au
Well worth it!
