Wikis are an awesome online tool with a difference. This COLLABORATIVE tool is inherently DEMOCRATIC , as all users have the same capabilities, access and authority.
It supports student learning through promoting exploration, independence and accountability in the building of COLLECTIVE THINKING or knowledge. It is particularly powerful as the focus of writing in a wiki is on the PROCESS, not the product- wikis promote the close reading, revision, and tracking of drafts.
Wikis can be used across the curriculum , however they are particularly purposeful in supporting the learning outcomes in English, Religion, Science and Social Sciences.
Wikis create a sense of SHARED KNOWLEDGE, which may be carried across courses, curricula, or countries.
